Biofabrique Vienna x Vienna Design Week 2024
Visit our exhibition and learn more about the pilot project!
How can leftovers from baking production, spent grains and excavated material from the U2/U5 underground railway construction site be turned into new materials for design and architecture? The results of Biofabrique Vienna's 100-day research project will now be on display at Vienna Design Week in an exhibition from 20 to 29 September. The exhibition centres on the question of a bioregional approach to design: from raw material analysis to the development of new building materials, material innovation from unused local resources will be showcased and made tangible.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience the first real-life application of the research results from Biofabrique Vienna on site. Studio dreiSt. was selected via an open call to design the hospitality area of Vienna Design Week as a Biofabrique Canteen using materials from Biofabrique Vienna.
Biofabrique Vienna is a pilot project of the Vienna Business Agency and Atelier LUMA, a programme of LUMA Arles, in partnership with the Institute of Architectural Design at TU Wien. Further partners are Bäckerei Ströck, Wienerberger AG und Wiener Linien.
