Torland Jeans, founded in Vienna in 2017 by Sascha Hümbeli, is a champion of sustainability and social justice in the fashion industry. The company is committed to using environmentally friendly materials, fair production methods and an innovative recycling concept.

With the move to a larger shop in Ottakring, Torland hopes to increase both in-store and online sales and is now becoming actively involved in the neighbourhood community.

Three questions for entrepreneur and managing director Sascha Hümbeli

What were your main reasons for relocating to Ottakring?

We decided to relocate to Ottakring because our existing warehouses were scattered across several locations and there was not enough space to meet the increasing demands of online shipping. We were looking for a location that offered both a small, street-level shop and sufficient storage space and working areas for our shipping operations. This way, our employees can work flexibly both in the shop and in shipping.

With the move to a larger shop in Ottakring, Torland hopes to increase both in-store and online sales and is now becoming actively involved in the neighbourhood community.

How does your business contribute to community life in the neighbourhood?

Our shop in Ottakring is very popular with the local community and we regularly engage with nearby businesses. We are planning to launch a number of initiatives, such as a neighbourhood oasis and using the pavement to display goods, to help revitalise the area.

We also organise quarterly events to foster a strong local community and show residents that they can find everything they need in their neighbourhood without having to travel long distances.

Do you have plans to expand into other international markets as part of your digitalisation strategy?

Yes, we will continue to expand internationally from our base in Ottakring. The funding from the Vienna Business Agency and the Vienna Neighbourhood Initiative have enabled us to step up our digital business and focus on expanding our online business in Germany. We have already launched our brand in the Netherlands, Belgium and France and are planning to expand to other European countries.
