Boehringer Ingelheim: saving lives in the heart of Vienna
April 1, 2024|LD
Founded in Germany in 1885, Boehringer Ingelheim has had a foothold in Vienna for 75 years, where it began operations in the backyard of a local pharmacy. Today, the company’s Vienna Campus employs over 3400 people from all around the world. The city has played a vital role in its expansion—the Regional Center Vienna is Boehringer Ingelheim’s global hub for cancer research and coordinates business for more than 30 countries.
“With a rich culture and deep commitment to sustainability, Vienna makes it easy to attract world-class talent,” says Supervisory Board Chairman Philipp von Lattorff. “I personally invite candidates who aren’t sure if they are ready to relocate to visit with their families. In 99% of the cases, they say yes to Vienna.”
The Boehringer Ingelheim new production facility, developed in collaboration with the Vienna Business Agency, is an essential addition to the company’s biopharmaceutical manufacturing network and one of the most advanced of its kind.
Site expansion and new projects in Vienna-Meidling
Boehringer Ingelheim is currently experiencing renewed growth and is expanding its site in Vienna-Meidling with a new office building for around 990 employees. With an investment of over
100 million euros, the office building will be constructed on a 4,500 square meter site at the corner of Altmannsdorfer Straße and Breitenfurter Straße. Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-2027.
Boehringer Ingelheim recently opened a state-of-the-art cancer research center in Meidling, further strengthening the scientific excellence of the site. The new office building will be just a five-minute walk from the main site, which currently accommodates more than 3,500 employees. The external office space in the Twin Towers and Big Point will no longer be needed after completion, as the expanded campus will be able to accommodate all employees.
“I personally invite candidates who aren’t sure if they are ready to relocate to visit with their families. In 99% of the cases, people say yes to Vienna.”
