Tour 5: Creatives for Vienna – Making Spaces X Klima Biennale Wien
Tour to the winning project “Licht für Vielfalt” on the topic of biodiversity.
The winning projects of the Creatives for Vienna – Making Spaces competition by the Wirtschaftsagentur Wien are presented at various locations in Vienna during the Klima Biennale Wien. They show how Vienna’s creative industries enhance public spaces in local neighbourhoods, strengthen community life, and help the city adapt to social and climate-related challenges.
This tour leads to the project Licht für Vielfalt by Dust Institute, which uses red-light filters on street lamps to support nocturnal biodiversity and demonstrate how insect-friendly lighting can work.

Participants experience the park after dark and explore the hidden biodiversity of the night. Together with nocturnal insect specialist Mario Osvald and artistic researcher Adam Hudec, participants observe insects using the scientific method of light trapping. A soft ultraviolet light and fabric surface attract nocturnal species, making them visible for observation. The workshop offers a unique opportunity to encounter insects up close and reflect on how artificial light shapes urban ecosystems.
