Kissaten Vienna by Rebecca Merlic explores Viennese and Japanese coffeehouse cultures in a playful way in Vienna’s contribution to the Austrian Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka. With a hologram screen and a mobile app you can explore the unique atmosphere of Viennese coffeehouses and Japanese kissaten in a new, interactive way—blurring the boundaries between digital and physical space.
On the occasion of the Meisterstrasse-theme weeks event “Crafting the future” at the signature pavilion, a conversation on the project will take place with Rebecca Merlic, Elisabeth Noever-Ginthör (Vienna Business Agency) as well as Nicola and Christoph Rath, founders of Meisterstrasse Handmade.
Kissaten Vienna can also be experienced at this year’s Creative Days Vienna as part of ViennaUP 2025.
