Kissaten Vienna
Experience the coffeehouse cultures of Vienna and Japan in a digital game
Creative minds gather at Creative Days Vienna for two days of lectures, tours and networking to discuss the latest interplay of technology, culture and society.
In Kissaten Vienna, Rebecca Merlić examines the social significance and cultural heritage of the coffee house cultures in Japan and Vienna. The interdisciplinary project is the setting for a virtual, immersive coffee house visit with the aim of promoting artistic and cultural exchange as well as the diversity of Japanese kissaten (literally ‘tea room’, a Japanese-style café that only serves coffee) and Viennese coffee house cultures, as well as to analyse, document and make them tangible. Kissaten Vienna builds bridges between continents and generations and creates an inclusive, digital space for two cultures to meet.
Experience the game Kissaten Vienna, which was awarded at the Content Vienna competition in 2023 and has its world premiere as part of Austria’s contribution to EXPO 2025 in Osaka, for the first time in Vienna.
Get your general admission ticket here. Individual slots for the experience are allocated personally during the opening hours (14 May from 2pm to 5pm and 15 May from 11am to 5pm) on a first-come, first-served basis.
