Creative Days X Paloma Oliveira
Workshop: Building equitable, inclusive and sustainable tech communities
Creative minds gather at Creative Days Vienna for two days of lectures, tours, performances, installations and networking to discuss the latest interplay of technology, culture and society.
Open source is one of the most powerful cultural and political concepts of our time. It provides a framework for building technology, institutions and communities based on equity, decentralisation and collective power. This workshop is aimed at software developers, creative technologists, entrepreneurs and founders working in the digital space and sector, as well as anyone else who wants to delve deeper into designing inclusive and sustainable digital spaces.
Taking open source as both a method and a provocation, it draws on “Diversifying Open Source” by Paloma Oliveira, and asks what becomes possible when shared knowledge, mutual care and public participation shape the systems we depend on. Participants will explore the history and philosophy of open source, encounter projects that are already challenging extractive models, and sketch their own visions for sustainable, fair and genuinely shared futures — ambitious enough to inspire pride and elegant enough to celebrate with champagne at night.
