Technologies from Vienna
Management and Exploitation of Intellectual Property RightsHOB Technology GmbH’s objective is to develop smart core technology that allows it to provide a wide range of profit-making services in the future, and further, that HOB Technology is a company entirely fueled by future vision. What we really do, is to investigate ways in which the ‘real world’ and the ‘digital world’ will intersect in the future and to design technology to meet these new demands.
At the moment the focus of our project lies in books, the book market and book-related information, but this should not be mistaken as the sole scope of its application. Powerful search engines like Google are capable of indexing millions of pages and returning millions of results, but in our understanding this is definitely not the right way to continue. In the future it will not be about sheer quantity anymore, but about the quality, reliability and the relevance of the information. So the only way to proceed is to analyze, qualify and merge information rather than to simply index it. In order to present relevant results, it will also be necessary to understand and integrate the user’s requirements and personality in much better ways.
But how can this be achieved? Well, that’s what our core technology is about: to use the almost limitless resources of the internet to build a coherent body of data and to make it accessible in a more effective and intuitive way. This is the objective of our venture – and it is not a small task.
The Radiated Library - A New Way to Search the InternetThe Radiated Library project is a new approach to searching the internet. The technology behind this innovative engine is based on knowledge and understanding rather than on popularity and keyword indexes.
It is designed to provide helpful suggestions and meaningful options instead of millions of useless hits. The basis of the results presented by the system is the information in and about books. Books have been and still are the main media to store the collected knowledge of mankind and it seems almost self-evident to utilize this enormous source and combine it with the capacity of modern computing and data mining in order to enrich data rather than to obscure it. Data acquisition is performed by automated harvesters that search and compare book related information from online sources. The collected information is cleaned and rated according to various parameters and finally merged to unique book objects. This process will generate not only the most comprehensive genealogical book register of all time, but also the most accurate price guide for antique and out of print books worldwide - both things that previously did not exist.
