The Vienna Business Agency has undertaken a diverse range of initiatives to help people to become more aware of and to experience research on a day-to-day basis. The goal is to inform the public about new technology and achievements in research and, in particular, to create enthusiasm among the scientists and researchers of tomorrow.
Making science and research visible.
Workshops for school groups
The "idea attack" research workshops at the Vienna Business Agency offer 3rd and 4th Viennese grade school students an opportunity to
- make specific associations between their everyday life and words like "research" and "innovation". This allows them to:
- understand the importance of research and innovation in our society;
- get to see what it's like to be a scientist or researcher; and
- last but not least, to become inquisitive and inventive themselves.
The initiative was first launched in 2010. The programme is aimed at exposing primary school children (especially girls) to the wide range of research and innovation jobs and to arouse their interest for the field. The Vienna Business Agency also offers an additional "idea attack" workshop aimed at teachers.
Future jobs introduces 7th and 8th grade school students to new professions and offers them concrete role models at a time where they are starting to consider their vocational and professional options.
The students slip into the these future jobs themselves throughout the workshop and develop product ideas for apps, robots and renewable energy solutions with people from the industry.
The Vienna Research Festival
The Vienna Research Festival is an invitation to young and old to come and discover science and research together. Together with Viennese companies, universities and research institutes, we bring Viennese research to a wide audience, introducing them to Viennese research projects projects and showing them how research is conducted in Vienna.
The Vienna Research Festival takes two different forms: every second year it is in the form of a big convention, with a travelling exhibition every other year. The next Vienna Research Festival will take place in spring 2020.
The Vienne Research Festival is organised by the Vienna Business Agency since it was first launched in 2008. The programme aims to bring research to the public and make it tangible.
