Virtual "Snake" in designer clothes
Kunabi Brother - these are Denis and Davor Mikan who have developed an amazing puzzle game for touchscreens - meet “Blek”.
The game of “Blek”seems simple enough. The player uses his/her finger to draw a repeating snakelike line on the screen. The line has to hit the colored circles but avoid the black holes. The solutions for each level are not uniform for each game. How the individual levels are conquered is not pre-determined. Intuition and concentration are essential.
The Bosnian brothers Denis und Davor Mikan released the clever game in December of 2013. The Kunabi Brother team won the €5000 Content Award in the “Games” category. The jury was thrilled both by the simple but innovative game experience and by the minimalistic aesthetics of the audiovisual design…and they weren’t the only ones.
“Blek” has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times in more than 25 countries to the tune of $2.99 per download. In the meantime, it has received positive reviews from various print resources, from the Standard to The New York Times, and it has earned multiple awards, among them an Apple Design Award in 2014.
Several offers to continue development of the game followed its popularity and success. The brothers decided to pursue this with the Viennese indie game studio Broken Rules, which has also received the Content Award. The new version of the game was introduced in February of 2015 on the NintendoWiiU gaming system. A new game is said to be in the Pipeline.
