As a third-generation family company, EVVA develops mechanical and electronic security systems in Vienna. Whether it is a new mounting system or premium quality lock cylinders – sustainability and economic efficiency go hand-in-hand for their innovative projects.
Relaxed professionalism Situated between family photos and spider plants, expert hands install premium-class locking cylinders. “A cylinder like this might consist of 122 individual parts. Every motion must be perfect.” Wolfgang Mann, responsible for production manufacturing, explains. This relaxed and concentrated atmosphere is the sign of the highest level of professionalism. Consider: for some contracts, the time from order to delivery may be as little as 24 hours. In order for this to function, everything must be perfectly coordinated. Processes like this do not just happen, they are an important part of the company’s philosophy.
The mounting system of the future
As a result of the research project »EVVA – Mounting System of the Future«, EVVA Sicherheitstechnologie GmbH and Fraunhofer Austria developed the so-called Cyber-Physical-Mounting System. This will support the mastering of the increasing complexity of mounting systems. The goal of the project is to increase productivity along with developing an ergonomically ideal working environment. Innovative ICT solutions and automation technologies will be implemented in order to support every employee individually according to his or her requirements. “By coincidence, our idea happened to coincide with the Call ProIndustry by the Vienna Business Agency. This gave us additional impetus for the limitation.” according to project leader Wolfgang Mann. “We have taken an important additional step which will allow us to continue production in Vienna for decades in the future.”
Spirit of innovation and clean production In 1919, three engineers founded the “Invention-Experimental-Recovery-Institute”. In 1937 EVVA was awarded the first patent for a cylinder padlock and forged a path for security technology. Today, the company has filed over 200 patents with nine locations in Europe and 50 partnerships worldwide. The headquarters in Vienna is also the centre of the innovative know-how of the company. “Only a company which considers sustainability and energy efficiency during development and production can claim a production location in a major city.” notes Michael Kiel, responsible for Operations and Quality Management. “Over the last several years we have been able to significantly reduce our energy usage and have developed an oil-free manufacturing technology which reduces costs and saves resources.”
