FUTUREbase
The future-oriented office building, which features a usable area of over 10,000m², can be found in the heart of the Vienna Innovation Area. In January 2018, the AIT, Austrian Institute of Technology, moved its offices, IT and laboratory area to Giefinggasse 4 in Vienna‘s Floridsdorf district. With the opening of this research building, the AIT has consolidated its Vienna locations. Over 850 researchers now work together at one single flagship research location - with a total area of 26,000m², divided over the three buildings FUTUREbase, ENERGYbase and TECHbase.
The building’s surroundings feature 60 bike racks, 59 parking places, and a charging station for electric vehicles. Both the construction and operation of the building take ecological aspects into consideration:
- Concrete core activation and use of groundwater for heating and cooling
- Mechanical ventilation system with heat Recycling
- Installation of a photovoltaic System
- Free of hazardous substances and instead uses ecologically safe building materials
The FUTUREbase was built by the Vienna Business Agency and the Wiener Städtische Vienna Insurance Group.
