Fit for the future with an economic programme for the coming decade
Vienna boasts above-average productivity levels and high economic output. It sets records every year for the number of international companies settling in the city and is a leader in research and development. To ensure this continues in future, Peter Hanke, Executive City Councillor of Finance, Business, Digital Innovation and International Affairs, set up Vienna Economic Council as an expert body to help develop a business and innovation strategy for Vienna through to 2030. Furthermore, around 200 representatives from business, civil society and politics engaged in efforts to generate ideas to help set the course for Vienna’s future. More than a hundred Viennese businesses provided crucial input; companies ranging from small start-ups to large industrial enterprises had the opportunity to put forward their ideas and visions for the city.
The VIENNA 2030 business strategy is concentrated on the six areas listed below. The city hopes to become a global leader in these areas over the next 10 years and develop innovations that deliver particularly powerful impacts (referred to as “Vienna solutions”).
- Smart solutions for the urban realm in the 21st century
- Vienna as a healthcare centre
- Viennese digitisation
- Smart production in a major city
- A city of international encounters
- Vienna as a cultural and creative centre
The new business and innovation strategy is flanked by a series of videos entitled “Stolz auf Wien” (Pride in Vienna) that places the spotlight on innovative Viennese companies and underlines Vienna’s strengths as a location for business.
