In international rankings, Vienna convinces with a higher quality of living and a multitude of green spaces.
Ranking among the “Top 10” and thereby an international leader, Vienna is listed in another city comparison. According to the Sustainable Cities Index 2016, a ranking of the 100 most sustainable metropolitan areas in the world, Austria’s capital is in fourth place. Vienna convinces especially with a high standard of living, as well as innovative measures for environmental- and climate protection. Especially the great variety of parks and green spaces, which encompass half of the city area, is what gives Vienna an advantage over other cities.
For the purpose of the Sustainable Cities Index 2016, 100 leading cities from all continents were reviewed based on the following criteria: “People”, “Planet”, and “Profit”. This provided an overall picture of the economic stability, environmental standards, and the quality of living in the respective cities.
