State-of-the-art research infrastructure for Viennese life science startups
Today marks a new chapter in the success story of the life science hub Vienna. With the official opening of the Startup Labs Vienna, Europe's top 5 life science location is setting new standards in the provision of infrastructure for young research companies, and not only in Austria.
As of today new therapies against cancer and drugs against infectious diseases – amongst others Covid19 – are being developed on 1,100 m2 at the Vienna Bio Center in Vienna's third district.
Nine relevant start-ups have already moved into the laboratory premises built by the Vienna Business Agency. 60 laboratory places combined with 30 office workplaces are available for scientists at the Vienna Bio Center. The labs follow the concept of the so-called "share principle". By jointly using the laboratory facilities provided, start-ups can avoid cost-intensive investments.
Vienna has an excellent scientific tradition in biomedical research experiencing steady growth for years: 554 companies and research institutions employ more than 37,500 people and generate revenues of approximately 12.2 billion Euros.
