Quality and diversity boost for journalism

24 projects will receive between 10,000 and 100,000 euros in the second round of the "Vienna Media Initiative" funding programme to implement their ideas.
In the second round of the "Vienna Media Initiative" funding programme, which supports high-quality journalism projects, 52 projects were submitted, significantly more than in the first round. 24 submissions convinced the top-class jury, they will receive between 10,000 and 100,000 euros to implement their ideas.
Once again, the range of projects submitted is broad and illustrates the innovations triggered by the "Vienna Media Initiative". The Viennese city newspaper FALTER, for example, is focusing on a new digital daily medium "FALTER.news", and the cross-media project "NAKE", as an online magazine for young people, is geared to digital natives and the interests of young people.
Overview on funded projects, round 2 (PDF, German only)
The Vienna Media Initiative is the first media funding of this kind in Austria and was launched in November 2019 as part of the reorientation of Vienna's city communication. Since then, 47 projects have been approved for funding - they are to bring more diversity to the scene, focus on high-quality journalism and respond to the increasing digitalisation of our world.
Submissions for the third round are possible until 10 January.
