One of the most state-of-the-art pharmaceutical production facilities in the world will be built in the heart of Vienna’s 10th district by 2021
By 2021, the pharmaceutical company Octapharma will have completed three major construction projects at its location in Vienna’s Favoriten district. The first of these projects was opened in October 2018, with the first ground-breaking for new, state-of-the-art facilities in serial production ceremonially celebrated at the same time.
In 2019, another building for medium production benchmarks will be added. This links the production of prototypes with standardised serial production. The three new building projects will create some of the most state-of-the-art pharmaceutical production facilities in the world, located on a total area of 80,000m² in the heart of the Austrian capital.
Commitment to Vienna
The building projects, which were funded by the Vienna Business Agency this year as part of its location initiative for new construction, are a clear positive response from the globally active pharmaceutical group to Vienna’s status as a business location. By continuing to develop its production facilities, the company is steadily creating new jobs. It is offering technologically advanced jobs in a central, urban environment to the local pool of professionals.
The new production opportunities multiply the number of medicines that can be manufactured each year. From 2026 onwards, a total of 3.6 million litres of blood plasma will be able to be processed into life-saving medicines in Vienna.
