Atos opens its European Competence Center for Industry 4.0 in the urban lakeside and joins the pilot factory of the TU Vienna.
Vienna’s urban lakeside is continuing to develop into the main center in the country for the research, implementation, and use of solutions for Industry 4.0. Several major technology projects currently in the implementation phase are laying the foundation for this effort. Included is the relocation to the city by the European IT competence center Atos, the construction of 10,000 m2 of new production and laboratory space, and a newly funded TU research project.
Atos Competence Center for Industry 4.0
With the arrival of IT-service provider Atos, a leading player in the IKT world with 100,000 employees in 72 countries is setting up their European Competence Center for Industry 4.0 at Vienna’s urban lakeside. This core facility, distributed over 400 m2 and equipped with world-class infrastructure, will also function as a laboratory for local industrial companies. Atos continues to strengthen Austrian industry with workshops, training, proof of concepts, as well as with presentations of existing Industry 4.0 use cases. Currently 60 Industry 4.0 applications are already available at Atos. The 20-person Atos team will be working closely with the pilot factory. TU (Technical University of Vienna) is already experimenting with real-world applications in this area. The University, along with approximately 20 companies, is enabling test runs for new production methods and applications in a scientific environment.
A magnet for learning - TU intensifies its research activities
The TU pilot factory is a central building block in the strategic focus Industry 4.0. Basic research, application-oriented research in cooperation with industry, research-guided teaching, and continuing education all take place here. These areas fit together like cogs in a wheel, so that the knowledge which is produced here will strengthen Austria’s competitive position internationally. The collaboration between business and science is receiving additional funding at this location thanks to a prestigious K1 center.
Expansion of the technology center for production and laboratory areas
To meet the needs of Viennese companies in the realm of Industry 4.0, the Vienna business agency is expanding the technology center Seestadt. With the addition of two new buildings, an additional 10,000 m² of production, laboratory, and office space is being created. The goal is to be able to offer companies with a high affinity to technology the space and corresponding infrastructure required to forge new paths in automation and manufacturing technology. Once the expansion is completed, the size of the technology center will be approximately 17,000 m2.
