The life science location of Vienna is growing
The Vienna Life Science Report 2018/19 confirms Vienna’s leading position as a location for life sciences in Austria. The study, which was carried out on behalf of LISAvienna, certifies Vienna with a five percent increase among employee figures across the sector, as well as an increase in sales by 23 percent compared with 2014.
A total of 37,600 people are employed in the sector, with total revenue amounting to €12.2 billion for 2017. Vienna is also home to 554 organisations within the life sciences sector, with 51 new start-ups founded between 2014 and 2017.
The Vienna Business Agency promotes life sciences
To support the path from the business idea to successfully implemented innovation, Vienna companies and research institutions received around €110 million in funding from the federal government and city in 2017. €28 million of this came from Viennese sources, especially the Vienna Business Agency and the Vienna Science and Technology Fund WWTF.
