First projects of the "Vienna Media Initiative" presented, submission for second round underway.
The first round of the "Vienna Media Initiative" funding programme for high-quality journalism projects has been completed: A total of 47 projects have been submitted since November last year, 23 of which are now being funded. 14 of them in the large funding programme "Medienprojekt", which supports the implementation of a new qualitative media offering with up to 100,000 euros. The second programme "Medienstart" supports the development of ideas to the point where they can be realised in the next step.
The Vienna Media Initiative is the first media funding of its kind in Austria and was launched in November 2019 as part of the reorientation of Vienna's municipal communications.
Innovative projects for the future of quality journalism
The range of projects submitted is very broad and ranges from binding different target groups through digital offerings, focusing on Viennese local journalism to offerings for Viennese people with a migration background. Large renowned houses, local media and freelance journalists have participated.
