EIT Manufacturing expands in Vienna

From now on, there is even more space for the manufacturing industry at the Technology Centre Seestadt. The Knowledge and Innovation Community of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) serves twelve countries in Central and Eastern Europe from Vienna.
Only last year, the Co-Location Center (CLC) East of EIT Manufacturing opened its doors in tz2 of the Seestadt Technology Centre and started operations in the newly built offices with 13 available workstations. While there were six employees in December 2020, the Vienna team already counts 12 as of June 2021, and the trend is rising. EIT Manufactoring supports twelve countries in Central and Eastern Europe with its activities and programmes from Vienna. The aim is to strengthen cross-border cooperation between industry, research and education in the European manufacturing industry and to promote innovation.
Clean air despite Covid-19
One EIT-funded project that is already well advanced is cleanAIR, a mobile air purification device with integrated disinfection function for closed rooms up to 50 m². In the course of the EIT's Crisis Response Initiative, a consortium of scientific and industrial partners (Institute for Manufacturing Technology (IFT) of TU Wien, AIT, HPM Technologie GmbH and AQA GmbH) developed a cost-effective air purifier, which ensures healthier and safer ambient air, especially in places with a high density of people. Initial tests of the newly developed air purification system have been very successful, and the disinfection strategy has already been examined in several laboratory tests. In the next step, the project will focus on market entry and the necessary certification.
