Vienna gets a new university - as of September 2019 all new students of the Central European University will take up their studies in Vienna.
The Central European University (CEU) announced its final move to Vienna this morning. This means that all incoming new students - these can amount up to 600 - will start their study programs in Vienna in September 2019. Enrolled students will complete their studies in Budapest.
The City of Vienna is actively supporting the start of the university. After all, Vienna is the largest German-speaking university city with currently around 200,000 students and the CEU will further underline Vienna´s position as a University City and reseach center.
With its Expat Center, the City of Vienna also has its own service point for the accompanying teaching staff and administrative staff - the CEU currently employs 700 people - which will actively support the CEU team in Vienna to get off to a good start.
The Expat Center of the Vienna Business Agency has more than 8 years of experience in advising and supporting international specialists and executives who want to settle in Vienna. This is where the most important questions are answered, e.g. "How to find an apartment in Vienna, where is a suitable kindergarten or a school, how can my partner get a "work permit" in personal consultations in up to 12 languages. Information events for the CEU team in Budapest are also planned.
Mayor Michael Ludwig on the move of the Central European University: "The CEU has not made its decision to leave Budapest lighthearted. This makes it all the more important to give this renowned and at the same time socially oriented university a warm welcome. Vienna has been supporting the CEU in implementing its relocation plans for more than a year. Negotiations between the City of Vienna and the Budapest Central European University are in full swing. It is important to me that both the teaching staff and the students have a good start here in our city.
