Ceremonial signing of contract between CEU and City of Vienna

The official final act in the negotiations between the CEU and the City of Vienna was set today with the signing of the contract for the use of a portion of the Otto Wagner Site by the University.
A signature that makes it a fixed date: the conditions for the future use of a portion of the Otto Wagner Areal by the Central European University have been negotiated and contractually secured. Michael Ignatieff, Rector of the CEU, and Gerhard Hirczi, Managing Director of the Vienna Business Agency, made it "official" during a festive photo session with the official signing of the contracts, in the festive atmosphere of the Steinsaal in Vienna City Hall.
The building lease agreement with the CEU has been concluded for a period of 100 years and specifies that the university itself will take care of the refurbishment of the buildings in the "core zone" to be used exclusively as a campus, which is about one third of the available area . The owner of this property is the Vienna Business Agency, as a fund of the City of Vienna. It has conducted the negotiations with the university on the part of the city.
The site will continue to be open to the public, and all further planning will be carried out in close coordination with the Office for the Protection of Historical Monuments.
