One and Three Chairs (Vienna)
Travelling sculpture/performance
curated by_ Michael Riedel & Sabine Schaschl
The travelling sculpture “One and Three Chairs” by Michael Riedel is based on the common misunderstanding that the famous major work of the same name by the concept artist Joseph Kosuth comprises four chairs. While Kosuth created his work by assembling a chair, a photographic depiction of a chair and a dictionary definition of the word ‘chair’, Riedel borrows these individual elements yet adds to them four chairs that are occupied during the performance by four people who discuss the work, the context and the concept.
