Sabine Schaschl & Michael Riedel
Sabine Schaschl, Director of Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich since 2013, is an art historian and curator of exhibitions on contemporary art and classical modernism, as well as an author and editor of academic publications. From 2001 to 2013, she was Director at Kunsthaus Baselland. She was named a Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2010. In 2007, she received the Swiss Federal Award.
Since the late 1990s, Michael Riedel has advanced a self-sustaining artistic production whereby new work is generated from existing material in seemingly endless loops and permutations. While his practice—which incorporates painting, text, audio, video, photography, publishing, architecture, and performance—may at first glance seem to share a conceptual affinity with Pop Art and Appropriation Art, it represents a departure from the issues of mechanical reproduction and simulacra that preoccupied these earlier Generations.
