Nemocentric
Politics often adopts a freewheeling rhetoric of subjectivity. The consequence is Egocentrism masquerading as political will and driving us towards a freedom that never arrives. Looking at subjectivity otherwise then, becomes a political necessity that has impact on the realm of images, sounds, and objects that we speak with and through in art. Nemocentrism – the idea of a subjectivity centered on no one – unsettles the regular Egocentric take on the subject, upturning how we have come to identify with politics. Nemocentric is a peep into this idea, presenting artists’ works that either directly or indirectly convey its viewpoint.
