
Marcus Andrew Hurttig
*1974, lives and works in Leipzig
Marcus Andrew Hurttig, born in 1974, was an independent scholar at the Hamburg Kunsthalle from 2002 to 2011 and has been working as a curator and scholar at the Graphische Sammlung im Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig since 2011. Studies in art history at the Johannes Gutenberg Universität in Mainz (from 1994) and the University of East Anglia in Norwich (1997/98); doctorate in Mainz in 2009, title of the dissertation: Caravaggios „Ungläubiger Thomas". Eine ikonographische Untersuchung (Valentin Koerner Verlag, 2014). The art of German and Italian painting of the 16th as well as the 19th and 20th centuries are a focus of his research. He is particularly interested in iconographic questions as well as matters concerning the history of science.
