Michael Beim & Sebastian Watzinger
The company birdkis, founded in 2012 by Michael Beim, started off as a record label. After many years of research in the field of hardware-based sound synthesis and analogue audio circuits, birdkids developed a modular boutique-quality synthesiser product line called The Bateleur in 2015. Since 2016 birdkids has been represented by ALEX4 distribution GmbH, the leading international Berlin distributor. The signature product: 42hp System, now in its second generation, enjoys international recognition due to its unique analogue sound and minimalist aesthetics. Among the customers are renowned musicians like Martin Gore from Depeche Mode, Shigeto from Brainfeeder and Grammy Award winner John Lunn from BBC (Downtown Abbey) as well as many others.
In 2018, the team successfully completed a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The development, a 100% analogue, dual synthesiser voice ( RAVEN ) in modular format, is already in its first production - and will be produced entirely in Austria (Vienna / Upper Austria) and assembled and finalised by hand.
