
Aino Laberenz
Aino Laberenz, born in Turku, Finland, studied art history before she started working in the theater. She works as a costume designer and has worked at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, the Volksbühne Berlin, the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the opera in Manaus/Brazil, the Bayreuth Festival, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Staatsoper Berlin, among others. She designed the costumes for several short films and worked with René Pollesch, Schorsch Kamerun, Karin Henkel, Stefan Pucher, Jette Steckel as well as with Armin Petras and Martin Laberenz. For Christoph Schlingensief's production Der Zwischenstand der Dinge (The Intermediate State of Things), she designed the costumes as well as the set. Since 2004 Aino Laberenz was part of Christoph Schlingensief's team and since 2010 she is the managing director of Christoph Schlingensief's Opera Village Africa.
In addition to her work for the theater, Aino Laberenz has planned various exhibitions, including for KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin and MoMA PS1 New York.
With curator Susanne Gaensheimer, she was in charge of the German Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011, for which she was awarded the Golden Lion.
She is also the editor of Schlingensief's biography Ich weiß, ich war's. published by Kiepenheuer & Witsch, and the book of conversations Kein falsches Wort jetzt!
