Workshop: Processing
Fluid simulations with Processing at the mumok - based on the exhibition Wolfgang Tillmans. Sound is Liquid.
Our surrounding world is abstract, diverse, and more often than not complicated to comprehend. In this complexity, it can be just as difficult to find one's place. The Creative Learning team at mumok, addresses this neuralgic point, or rather this “blank space.” With various contemporary perspectives from the different artistic and scientific disciplines, the team offers participants insights into cultural history to recognize how the world was shaped and how the past influences the present. Through innovative combinations of diverse pedagogical and transdisciplinary approaches, our visitors become agents of their own learning and creative expression.
Based on the current Wolfgang Tillmans exhibition "Schall ist flüssig" (Sound is Liquid), the workshop spans an arc from Tillmans' early portraits to his works from the “Silver” and “Freischwimmer” cycles, which link to the fundamental meaning of the word “photography”: painting with light. The workshop links the photographic process with the creative creation of self-programmed fluid simulations. Using the Java-based programming language Processing, the real will be captured and the abstract created.
