Margarete Jahrmann
Margarete Jahrmann is a game artist, media theorist and head of the new department for Experimental Game Cultures at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In her collaborative and interdisciplinary artistic practice, she creates virtual, performative as well as installative works, dealing with the ludic, emerging technologies and the human condition. Her core motivation evolves around the method of activist and politically conscious play, game changer games and contemporary global challenges.
She was awarded the Media Arts price of the City of Vienna in 2020, and among other rewards the distinction in interactive arts at ars electronica 2003 and transmediale award 2004. She was Jury member at numerous game awards, the Pixel Bytes& Film program and is joining as EU expert jurys in creative games and leads artistic research projects (FWF/PEEK) such as Neuromatic Game Art. Her work has been widely exhibited,and she is participant of the Hybrid Play Festival in Hellerau, the Fundacion Ludwig Cuba and the Art|Sci Center Los Angeles. She will also participate in the 14th Bienal de la Habana in 2022. Her work is in the the courtesy of the permanent collection of Computerspielemuseum Berlin, ZKM | Karlsruhe and will be an exemplary case in the new digital collection of Vienna Museum of Science and Technology in 2022.
